FAQ and General Information

Afterschool Programs are provided through the Beacon Center.

Beacon Center: BTW is a Beacon Center of the East Harlem Children's Center. It provides services from 9 am to 9 pm five days a week and saturday including athletics, tutoring, music, and community programs for k-12 students and community adults.

Basketball Schedule. BTW Boys Varsity Raiders, Jr. Varsity Raiders and Lady Raiders are coached by Mr. Reginald Carrington.

Camera Club: Meets every Thursday 4th Period Lunch in the library. Students work with digital still cameras, video cameras, and computer software to make one minute movies. Contact the advisor, Ms. Goldfarb, in the library.

Chorus: Meets at 3pm on Wednesdays in the auditorium directed by Ms. Karen Powers.

French Club: Meets Wednesdays, 5th Period in the library. Mr. Claude Chaney is the advisor.

Ice Skating: Thur. afternoons from Feb. trhough May students may sign up for ice skating at the Central Park Rink for an annual fee of $28.00. Contact **** for more information.

Math Club: Meets Fridays 5th Period with Advisor Ms. Liz McNulty in room 30.

PTA: Meets the second thursday of each month. Executive Board meets at 6pm and the general membership meeting follows at 7 pm. This link will open to provide information on Officers, Committees and the Chairmen, Class Parents, PTA Agendas, Minutes, Budget Information, and Upcoming Events.

Parents' Safety Patrol: a committee of the PTA under the leadership of *****, schedules two parents at lunchtime from 12-1:05 pm and from 1:40pm-3:10 pm each day to assist security with providing a safe environment for students during lunch time and at dismissal. Parents patrol the building perimenter and report any security problems to the school safety officers. Addtional parents are urgently needed. Please contact the Parent Safety Patrol Chairperson to volunteer or learn more.

Ryan Community Health Center housed in BTW provides a variety of health care services during the school day.

Safety Committee: Mr. Lynch, Mr. McCourt, Sgt. Veronica Nesmith-Hayward, and a PTA Officer meet regularly to discuss school safety plan and safety concerns.

School Leadership Team: Eight parents are elected to serve two year terms on the the school leadership team. The Eighteen member team includes members of the school administration, teachers and staff as well as parents. Together they develop the Comprehensive Education Plan for the school. The School Leadership Team meets Wed. mornings at 7:20 am on alternate weeks. For more information, contact the Parent Chair, Karen Allis or Teacher Chair Francis Bou.

Student Council: Sixth Grade Student Council is Advised by Ms. Erica Williams and Ms. Sara Stein. 7th Grade is Advised by ***** . Eighth Grade is Advised by Ms. Liz McNulty. Check with advisors for the time and place of meetings.

State and City-wide Schedule of Tests are available from the NYC Dept. of Education..
