Library Rules

I. Students may borrow up to four books or magazinesat a time and keep them for two weeks. Materials may be renewed for an additional two weeksunless another reader has requested them. Books marked "reference"or "do not circulate" must be used in the library. Newspapersand the most current issue of each magazine must be used in thelibrary.


II. Students are responsible for gettingmaterials back on time. Lost or damaged materials must be paidfor or replaced.

III. Students may borrow materials duringmorning and afternoon homeroom, or throughout the day provided theycome with a pass from their teacher. The library uses the honorsystem. Students may check out and check in their own materialsusing their student ids.

IV. Students must show their pass to thelibrarian and sign in in the library guest book with their first andlast name and class every time they come into thelibrary.

V. The library is a place for quiet study andresearch. Appropriate behavior is required at all times. Studentswho disrupt or disturb others will be asked to leave. When thelibrary is full, additional students will not be admitted even ifthey have a pass.

VI. The library is open during the lunch hourmost days. Students must have a pass from their classroom teacher.The schedule on the library door indicates when the library is open.Students with passes should eat first and them come to the library.They are expected to remain the entire period until afternoonhomeroom. 

VII. A limited number of computers are availablefor Internet access, typing, and research.  Printing islimited. Students should come with printer paper and be prepared totake notes or to save work on a computer disk. Limited Xeroxing isavailable at the librarian’s discretion.

VIII. When many students want to use thecomputers, the rule is "first come, first serve" however, studentswill be asked to share computer time. Students working on schoolassignments can bump students doing recreational browsing.

IX. No viruses, no changing desk tops ortrashing files or programs. Games are limited to five minutes. Thelibrarian's decision is final.

X. Students must respect the Acceptable Internet UsePolicy. Violators will lose the privilege of using computers.Any student intentionally damaging computers, furniture or materialswill be barred.

XI. The library is open afterschool several daysa week. Check the door calendar for days and times.

XII. The library is pleased to display samplesof student writing, art and projects. Celebrations, concerts,authors' parties and other events may be scheduled by classroomteachers.

XIII. Students are invited to be part of theLibrary Squad to help with preparing materials, shelving books, andassistng students with using the library and the computers.Applications will be available in the fallsemester.

XIV. Students are invited to join the Tech Squadto help maintain computers and design Web Pages. Student help isalso needed for operating digital and videocameras.
