The mission of M.S. 54 is to nurture and develop a community of young learners with academic skills which meet or exceed the current standards,
and the social skills and maturity necessary to ensure success in high school and beyond.
The Booker T. Washington Middle School community will provide:
I. An academic environment that reflects enrichment through intellectually appropriate activities and fosters scholastic excellence, independent learning and open communition;
II. An interdisciplinary curriculum designed to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills, by applying a varioety of resources, groupings and teaching strategies;
III. A nurturing environment, that is sensitive to the needs of the individual student;
IV. A safe, properly equipped, aesthetically pleasing physical environment that enhances and is enhanced by the students' work;
V. A unified community, which fosters learning and experiences leading to understanding, appreciation and respect for its diversity;
VI. A collegial staff, which utilizes its experience and the resources and diversity of the entire school community to accomplish these goals;
VII. A School Leadership Team which serves as a forum and a sounding board ringing together the various components of the school community in order to meet the needs and concerns of the entire BTW community.
