Youth Program at WKCR 89.9 FM in NY: Youth Mic Recruitment for Teens!

(This is a pass along. Its appearance here does not constitute an endorsement)

My name is Chelsea Gleason and I am the recruitment coordinator for a
youth radio program called Youth Mic. I am sending this email to
teachers, counselors and program coordinators who may be in contact
with youth interested in our program. Youth Mic is a radio program at
WKCR 89.9 FM NY designed for middle school and high school students.
Every Monday from 9:00-9:30 p.m. the Youth Mic crew presents news,
debate, poetry and commentaries on topics that concern teens from
their unique perspectives. Teens choose their own show topics, and
prepare for this live show by meeting Mondays 6-9 pm and/or Thursdays
6-9 pm. I’ve attached a flyer that you can hand out to interested
youth, or flyer in your schools and communities.

This fall, we would like to expand our program. Recruitment involves
having potential new members to the station, training them on
interviewing and editing techniques, and eventually involving them
into Youth Mic shows and projects. No prior experience is necessary
for the program, the only requirement is that students are ages 13-18.

I would like to start workshops as soon as possible; I have set aside
Wednesdays 5-7 for this purpose, although this day is flexible and I
would love to hear back from you about the availability of the teens
at your high school or youth program. There are 3 training sessions,
and I would like to accommodate all interested students. Hours at
youth mic are often counted as community service hours for our
students, and you may want to inform your youth of this.

The studio is located on 114th Street and Broadway.
